New secretary to head Fajr theater festival

A new secretary has been appointed to help direct the 36th Fajr International Theater Festival.

The director of Iran’s Dramatic Arts Center, Mehdi Shafiei, has appointed theater scholar and teacher Farhad Mohandespour as secretary of the Fajr International Theater Festival.

The new secretary replaces theater expert Saeid Asadi, who held the position since 2015.

The Fajr International Theater Festival was established in 1983. It occurs annually in Iran, featuring local and international theatrical works and performers.

The festival is held during the Fajr Decade (literally meaning ten days of dawn), which marks the anniversary of the ten days from the return of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, to Iran (February 1) until the victory day of the Islamic Revolution (February 11) in 1979.

The previous edition included sections such as “New Generation of Iranian Theater Practitioners”, “Annual Review of Iranian Theater Performances”, “International Performances”, “Guests”  and “Environmental, Interactive and the Other Kinds of Outdoor Theater Performance”, “+Fadjr”, “Playwriting Competition”, “Contest and Exhibition of Photography of Theater”, and “The Contest and Posters Exhibition and Visual Identity”.
